What is God’s plan for the family? In this episode, we’ll take a closer look at how God designed family as the foundation for a healthy society. If we want God’s blessing in our relationships, we have to do it His way. Let’s start with our homes and watch the impact ripple outward.

Family Basics:

1. God designs and orders family.

Remember what we read earlier Genesis 1:27 + Genesis 2:24: Family and marriage is the first institution God created for the stability of societies.

Cultural idea says: Choose your gender. You don’t have to be married. Or, you can choose the same sex to be married. And you can create family. But, it’s a lie. It won’t work.

2. God designed man to cleave to his wife.

Cleave: To Join, to continue hard pursuit, to make a deep commitment, spiritually and emotionally, permanently bonded. To love and to lead each other in Godly living.

3. God designed marriage for children.

Remember Genesis 1:28 – “He blessed them and said: “Be fruitful and multiply”... God said to “Them”. The role of the father and the role of the mother are both necessary. The best mother in the world isn’t a good father. The best father in the whole world...makes a pretty lousy mother. God’s design was for Mother and Father, together to raise children.

Note to single parents:

I know there are single mothers and fathers who didn’t get there by choice. And if you are a single parent, you are in the right place. The bible says God places the lonely in families. Where people fall short, the Lord can come through, and he does it through spiritual family.

Children from fatherless homes – especially those who are not connected to healthy spiritual family are:

more likely to be poor
involved in drug and alcohol abuse,
drop out of school,
suffer from health and emotional problems
incarcerated or in an early grave.

So, where do we go from here?

Shaking our fist at the world isn’t going to change it.

We must change it personally, in our own family, and in our church family.

1 Peter 4:17 (NLT) “For the time has come for judgment, and it must begin with God’s household. And if judgment begins with us, what terrible fate awaits those who have never obeyed God’s Good News?”

God will only bless and be a part of what He designed.

If you want God’s blessing on your relationships, you must do it His way.
