EPISODE 0074 | My House Before The White House
THESE NOTES ACCOMPANY EPISODE 0074
Our families shape the future of our world. But today, the family unit faces relentless challenges, leading to a breakdown in society. In this episode, we’re diving deep into the decline of the family and discovering how biblical truths can help us fight back. It’s not about what happens in the White House—it starts in your house.
My House Before the White House:
1. Family is the foundation of society.
Genesis 2:24 (NLT) This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.
This verse comes after a longer passage where God makes Adam, Adam identifies all the animals, can’t find a suitable helper and God makes Eve from Adam. After all that, God says, these two will be come one. If you want to destroy a society, you destroy the family first. If you want to build a society, you focus on building strong families.
Then in explaining their job, the bible has this to say:
Genesis 1:28 (NLT): “Then God blessed them and said, ‘Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.’”
From these two passages we see that the foundational human institution designed by God for the benefit of the entire natural world, is marriage and family.
When we talk about the social decline in our country, we can draw a straight line to the breakdown of the family.
2. When the family breaks, society breaks. The true greatest social injustice we currently are facing is hearts of fathers not turned toward their children- break down of family.
We have a problem - the answer is the work of Jesus, that was prophesied in Malachi 4 among other places.
Malachi 4:5–6 (NLT) “Look, I am sending you the prophet Elijah before the great and dreadful day of the Lord arrives. His preaching will turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers. Otherwise I will come and strike the land with a curse.”
What if the family was intended to be the answer to the world? Could it be that the enemy is behind all the busy-ness and chaos, so we don’t discover the Joy of a whole family?
It was always God’s intention for our families to represent Him in such a way that the world would take notice and adjust accordingly.
God hasn’t changed His mind; we have to change ours. The enemy has been intentional, but we have not. The enemy has doubled down on the attack of family. It was prophesied that as we reach the end of time our young generation would be more attacked:
2 Timothy 3:1–5 (NLT) You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!
3. We must return to God’s plan for the family.
Joshua 24:15 (NLT) But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”
We must know what we mean when we say: “as for me and my house (family), we will serve (worship) the Lord.”
If we are going to be intentional, we have to know what family should look like according to biblical values, according to the creator’s design.
Since God created family, must we look to Him to understand the purpose and design of family.
