EPISODE 0090 | People Pleaser Trap

THESE NOTES ACCOMPANY EPISODE 0090

The desire to please others is natural, but when it takes control, it becomes a trap that pulls us away from God’s purpose. In this episode, we unpack the dangers of people-pleasing and explore biblical truths to break free. Discover how to live for the applause of One, shift your focus to eternal values, and embrace the freedom that comes from trusting God’s approval above all else.

What happens when we fall into the trap of trying to please everyone?

1. We miss God’s purpose for our life.

1 Thessalonians 2:4 “Our purpose is to please God, not people. He is the one who examines the motives of our hearts.”

2. We stop growing in our faith.

Matthew 22:37-40 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

3. We are MUCH more likely to fall into sin.

Exodus 23:2 “Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong!”

5 Biblical Truths About People Pleasing

1. Not even God can please everyone.

Luke 6:26 “Woe to you when ALL men speak well of you”

2. You don’t need approval to be happy!

Isaiah 51:12 "I am the One who comforts you! So why are you afraid of mere humans, who wither like the grass and disappear?”

3. What seems so important now is only temporary.

Short-term thinking leads to people pleasing.   An eternal perspective leads to freedom!

1 John, 2:17 “The world and everything in it that people desire is passing away; but those who do the will of God will live forever.”

4. You are called to live for the applause of one.

John 5:30 Jesus: “I don't try to please myself, but I only please the One who sent me.”

5. One day I will give an account of my life before God.

Romans 14:12 “Yes, each of us will have to give a personal account to God.”
