EPISODE 0024 | The Metalaws of Humanity
THESE NOTES ACCOMPANY EPISODE 0024
Today Pastor Stephen discusses the Ten Commandments and how they emphasize the distinction between the moral and the immoral, the decent and the profane. Comparing each commandment to its secular humanist counterpart, this episode highlights how these opposing worldviews shape our understanding of freedom and truth.
Understanding The Ten Commandments
1. God is first. (I am the Lord…) You will be accountable to God. God is first, even if He isn’t first in your life.
Kings were not God like Pharoah was worshipped as God. They were accountable to God. Revolutionary in every area of human progress.
2. We are the created. (I am the Lord Your God) We all know this is true – we are finite, God is infinite.
Absolute or Objective Truth vs. Subjective truth. Truth is discovered or revealed by man not created.
3. God delivers us from slavery. (out of egypt)“…I am the Lord your God who brought you out of Egypt…”
What our world calls freedom is actually slavery. Slavery is both a place AND a mindset. Before it is a place, it is a mindset.
4. God delivers us to freedom. (out of slavery) “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.”
You can remove the slave from Egypt but not Egypt from the slave.
Freedom is both a place and a mindset. Before it’s a place it’s a mindset. We have to choose it before we live it.
TWO WORLDVIEWS COLLIDE
1. The Biblical Worldview is man with God.
2. The Secular Humanist Worldview is man without God.
Three Types of Old Testament Laws:
1. Moral Law – For all people at all times.
2. Civil Law – Built on the spirit of the moral law but unique to the Jewish Nation at that time and place.
3. Sacrificial Law – This was a OT picture of a NT reality. Jesus is the ultimate once and for all sacrifice for our sin.
Absolute Truth is discovered or revealed, it is not invented or created by man
