THESE NOTES ACCOMPANY EPISODE 0097
Peace is essential in the spiritual battle, but it doesn’t come automatically—it must be fought for. In this episode, we explore the Shoes of Peace from the armor of God and how they equip us to stand firm in life’s challenges. Discover how to overcome self-doubt, trust God in every circumstance, and live in the conquering peace that only Christ provides. True peace isn’t passive; it’s powerful and transformative.
Characteristics of Roman Footwear:
· They were shod or bound on. -in Greek. No flip flops, not loose fitting. Think snow-boarding or skiing.
· They had two parts. - The greave, had two plates, covered the knee to the shin. And the calve in the back bound together with leather straps.
· They were reinforced with brass. Little pieces of brass over the foot with thick leather soles. Similar to steel toed shoes.
· They had spikes on the bottom. Spikes 1 inch long on bottom, 3 inch made for stepping on people.
· They were both offensive and defensive weapons. They were made for stance but also for destruction.
God’s called us to go somewhere and we need peace to get there.
Roman 8:6 “For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.”
Every Christian has a right to the peace of God.
Revelation 12:11 (NIV) They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
Three Strategies of the Enemy to Steal Your Peace
1. Self-doubt.
Gets you thinking things like: “If you read your bible, attended church, and prayed like you were supposed to – you wouldn’t have these problems.” That’s what the devil tries to tell us.
The reality is – Jesus was perfect, and Satan still hit him!
How to overcome self-doubt:
1. Learn from the past. (learn and forget it – don’t obsess)
2. Move on in the present. (Press on – why to what’s next)
3. Keep your eyes on the future. (Jesus is where the peace is)
2. God doubt. The enemy wants us to be mad at God.
To focus on “I’ve been following you for so long and still don’t see the changes I want to see.” “I’ve been giving and haven’t been blessed in return.” “My prayers aren’t being answered.”
How to Overcome God-Doubt:
1. Know the truth.
John 8:31-32 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
This goes back to allowing the belt of truth, the bible inform you about who God is not your circumstances.
The bible is over our head not our circumstances. You will have a hard time telling what is from God and what is from the enemy without knowing the Bible.
2. Identify the source.
Rule of thumb:
James 1:17 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
John 10:10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
Does it steal, kill or destroy? Or give life?
God is all powerful why does he allow bad things to happen?
3. Reject the Doubt with the Truth.
Doubt is like a seed planted into your heart. The longer you allow it to remain, the stronger it grows.
3. People Doubt. He will make people the enemy.
Ephesians 6:12 (NIV) For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Importance of the Local Church.
Peace is BOTH defensive AND offensive.
Results of Offense & Unresolved Conflict:
1. It hurts our relationship with God.
1 John 4:20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.
2. It hurts our prayers.
How many of you need to hear from God? Kids, Work, Decisions, rough season?
Matthew 5:23-24 "Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.”
3. It hurts our happiness.
You cannot be happy and in conflict at the same time.
Six Biblical Steps to Resolving Conflict & Offense:
Go First. We have to take the initiative.
Own your Part. Even if it’s .0000999
Seek perspective. Put yourself in their shoes.
Speak truth in love.
Focus on the solution not who’s at fault.
Focus on the relationship, not the resolution.
