EPISODE 0070 | God Changes Your Mind Through His Word
THESE NOTES ACCOMPANY EPISODE 0070
True transformation begins with a renewed mind. In this episode, Pastor Stephen unpacks how God changes the way we think through His Word, shaping our hearts and actions from the inside out. Learn why religion fails when it focuses on outward behavior and how true faith allows God to master your life.
1 Corinthians 1:18 The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.
This won’t work if you aren’t born again, if you don’t have a new heart but when you are, now God’s word can change you.
John 17:15-17 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
Sanctify – to make holy or clean, set apart, to be made into.
You learn how to walk in His ways through His word.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
The way you think results in the way you act.
This continues to be a struggle for us even after we’re saved. We want to start on the outside but God says the real problem is on the inside. We get a new heart but can still be held back because we aren’t thinking like God.
Religion is about mastering God.
True faith is about God mastering you.
Why don’t we think like God? Because we don’t know His word.
Here’s my challenge for this week and every day moving forward for the rest of your life:
Spend time reading the Bible every day.
Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.
God wants to speak to you, how do you know his voice, how do you know if it’s him? You know Him. You know His character, you know how He works and as you read the Bible over and over you begin to see more and more of who He is to you.
Biblical Perspectives
1. Jesus is the eternal word.
John 1:14 So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.
2. The Bible is one unified story about Jesus.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
3. The Bible teaches us the will and ways of God.
Deuteronomy 30:15-16 “Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between life and death, between prosperity and disaster. 16 For I command you this day to love the Lord your God and to keep his commands, decrees, and regulations by walking in his ways. If you do this, you will live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you and the land you are about to enter and occupy.
But what if I don’t understand?! I get it, but faith without faith isn’t faith. Just stay humble and remember that you aren’t God then ask the Holy Spirit to show you.
Bible Reading Plan – Audio bible, written bible – Devotionals are good but you need to read through the Bible every year. It is one story about Jesus.
