Three Relationships of Character
1. Every Christian needs a Paul who is leading.
People use this family language a lot, spiritual father (You need them, but they don’t need you) But you can’t be fathered by a podcast!
I Corinthians 4:15: Even if you had ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel.
2. Every Christian needs a Barnabas who is loving.
A friend or several friends who are with you, encouraging you. They sharpen you. (You need each other)
Acts 11:22-24: The news about them reached the ears of the church at Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas off to Antioch. Then when he arrived and witnessed the grace of God, he rejoiced and began to encourage them all with resolute heart to remain true to the Lord; for he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith And considerable numbers were brought to the Lord.
3. Every Christian needs a Timothy who is learning.
1 Timothy 1:2: I am writing to Timothy, my true son in the faith. May God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord give you grace, mercy, and peace.
Did you know that someone is watching you. You may only have one or two spiritual fathers but you can have a lot of sons and daughters. They are looking to you to be an example for them to follow.
You fail two ways in your character:
When you go to fast and when you go alone.
