6 Characteristics of a Successful Person
1. Teachable. Someone who is receptive to instruction and correction.
Proverbs 9:9 (NLT) "Instruct the wise, and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous, and they will learn even more."
Acts 13:22 (NLT) But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do.’
2. Humble. One who recognizes their own limitations and is open to guidance.
James 4:6 (ESV) "But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: 'God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.'"
3. Hungry. A genuine hunger and thirst for personal, spiritual, and moral growth.
1 Peter 2:2 (NIV) "Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation."
4. Committed. The willingness to persevere, stay accountable, and maintain consistency in the mentoring relationship.
1 Corinthians 15:58 (NLT) "So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless."
5. Obedient. Recognizing the value in the wisdom and experience of those who have gone before.
Hebrews 13:17 (NLT) "Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit."
6. Honest. Being transparent about one's struggles, doubts, and aspirations, making it possible to receive specific and relevant guidance.
James 5:16 (NLT) "Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results."
