EPISODE 0039 | Are You Really A Christian: Vision
THESE NOTES ACCOMPANY EPISODE 0039
Human beings are vision driven. What we see has a powerful effect on our life. The foundation of authentic faith is the ability to see our life in God’s plan. Today Pastor Stephen teaches us about the power of personal vision and how it connects your life to purpose and significance.
A Personal Vision connects your life to significance and purpose.
Characteristics of Personal Vision:
1. Your vision must start with God.
Proverbs 29:18 MSG: If people can’t see what God is doing [they don’t know His vision for them], they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed.
2. Your vision pushes you forward.
Hebrews 12:1-2: Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, 2 keeping our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3. Your vision gives purpose to your pain.
Hebrews 12:11:11 No discipline seems enjoyable at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
4. Your vision won’t happen overnight. If it does, it is way too small!
Story of Joseph - Wrongly accused and thrown into prison.
Genesis 40:1 After this, the king of Egypt’s cupbearer and baker offended their master, the king of Egypt.
Joseph interprets two dreams, the baker was involved in an assassination attempt on pharaoh and would die, the cup bearer would be vindicated and put back in position. Joseph urged the cup-bearer to mention him to pharaoh – He was the answer to getting out of prison.
Genesis 40:23: Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph; he forgot him.
5. Your vision outlasts you. We can get so wrapped up with this world that we stop allowing the next life to drive us.
1 John 2:17: And the world with its lust is passing away, but the one who does the will of God remains forever.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18: Therefore we do not give up. Even though our outer person is being destroyed, our inner person is being renewed day by day. 17 For our momentary light affliction is producing for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory. 18 So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
3 Steps to Developing a Personal Vision:
1. Discover the why of your life. Start at the end. This is the why of your life.
Psalm 139:16: Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all my days were written in your book and planned before a single one of them began.
2. Determine the what of your life. Determine Priorities. The why of your life determines the “what” of your life.
3. Develop the who of your life. Map your relationships. The why determines the what but the who makes it all possible. Your ability to build great relationships is huge.
