One of the most important skills we must learn, especially as Christians, is how to resolve conflict. Living in a broken world means conflict is everywhere. Today, Pastor Stephen teaches us how to handle conflict biblically and find peace in our relationships, allowing them to thrive.
Three Effects of Unresolved Conflict:
1. It Hinders Our Relationship with God.
1 John 4:20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen
2. It Hinders Our Prayers.
Matthew 5:23-24 "Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.”
3. It Hinders Our Spiritual Maturity.
“Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
The Biblical Way to Resolve Conflict:
1. Act first. We have to take the initiative.
2. Own your part. Even if it’s .0000999, that’s called humility.
3. Listen for the hurt. Hurt people hurt people.
4. Consider their perspective. Put yourself in their shoes.
5. Speak the truth in love.
6. Focus on the solution.
7. Value the relationship.
