THESE NOTES ACCOMPANY EPISODE 0001

Healthy families are vital for healthy societies, and they start with husbands and fathers. On today’s episode, Pastor Stephen discusses the journey of men from boyhood to fatherhood. SHOW NOTES:

Progression of Male Maturity: Boys, Husbands & Fathers

 1.   We start as boys.

1 Corinthians 13:11 "When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things."

Genesis 2:15 "The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it."

Two Biblical Qualifications for a husband: They must be a Christian AND have a job.

2.   We choose to become husbands.

Genesis 2:18 "Then the Lord God said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.'"

Ephesians 5:31 "As the Scriptures say, 'A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.'"

3.   God makes us fathers.

Jeremiah 1:5 "I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations."

Psalm 139:13 "You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb."

2 Corinthians 6:18 (NIV) “And, ‘I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

Five Principles of Godly Fatherhood

1. Model Your Faith

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (NIV): "These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."

2. Lead with Authority

Joshua 24:15 (NIV) "But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."

3. Protect and Provide

1 Timothy 5:8 (NIV) "Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever."

4. Discipline with Justice

Hebrews 12:11 (NIV): "No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it."

5. Leave a Legacy

Proverbs 13:22 (NIV) "A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous."
